PERSUASIVE WRITING

 

Persuasive writing is used to convince an audience to take a specific action. 

Our students were given one of the questions below and they had to defend one side.  It wasn't always the side they felt was right.  Some students found this difficult, but they understood that in order to make an informed decision you must know both sides of the story. Should rainforests be destroyed and cleared for commercial use? YES NO

Should the United States spend more money exploring space than they do exploring the ocean? YES NO

Should the USA have stayed out of the Vietnam Conflict or should they have helped fight with the South Vietnamese? YES NO
Was prohibition a good thing for the people of the United States during the early 1920's?
